Get rid of those trees

December 29, 2008

Christmas is over, folks.
I don't want to admit it either but those old trees are starting to become fire hazards and it's time for them to go to the Christmas tree farm in the sky.

Don't think of this as the end of Christmas.  Think of this as a way to show your kids that you're a responsible sort of parent and get rid of your tree in the responsible way.

Solid Waste Management Services will start picking up trees on Jan. 2nd.  Make sure that everything has been taken off of the tree since the trash guys won't pick up a tree that still has ornaments and/or lights on it.

The trees will be chipped up and sold as mulch so you know they aren't going to a landfill and they also aren't going to be in the ditch on the side of the road [I know you've seen that before.]

So, enjoy your tree for a couple of more days and make sure that you keep pouring the water to it.  When the sad day comes to take everything off of the tree, get your kids involved and make a big show of it.  They helped put the stuff ON the tree so they can help take all of it OFF.

And the fact that it makes your job faster has nothing to do with why they should help.  ;)
