Book Nooks for Tots

November 11, 2008

Before Cara [my daughter] could even sit up, I was reading books to her.  I don't know how much she really absorbed but I do know that those nights right before bed established a routine that has continued for two years.

Reading is one of those activities that cost very little or nothing at all.  Twenty minutes a day can help foster a true love of learning and reading that will last a lifetime.

Story time as a group is a wonderful way to expand on reading one-on-one.

Pinocchio's Book Store is a classic in Memphis.  The store's stock is hand picked ans high quality.  Story time is on Friday at 10:30am.

Davis-Kidd Booksellers is another great place for story time.  Preschool story time is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30am.  Check out their website for a detailed list of the books that will be read at each story time.

My third pick for a great story time place would be the Memphis Public Library.  Toddlers [ages 2-3] story time is on Wednesdays at 10am at the Central location.  Other days and times are available at the other locations.  Pre-school [ages 4-5] story time is Mondays and Thursdays at 10 am.  As always, check out their website for a REALLY detailed list of all of their children's activities along with story time times.

I'm always on the lookout for more great story time locations, so if you know of a really original and wonderful location then leave me a comment and I'll be sure to share the information with everyone.

Now, get to reading!
