Explore Memphis with Being Savvy

Moby, Mozart or Miles

November 07, 2008

The goal of Savvy Source Memphis is to provide you with awesome things to do with your kids that you might not know about or that you might have overlooked.

Music is one of those things that transcend language and age barriers and it's one of the first things that small kids really seem to connect with.

Instead of just popping in a CD or DVD, why not go to a Rock-n-Romp?

The idea started in DC but was brought to Memphis by Stacey Greenberg, Robby Grant, Dan Harper, Wendy Trenthem, Chip Chockley, Shiloh Barnat, and Mike and Kelli Smith.

It's a pretty simple concept.

A group of adults get together, donate $5, drink beer and let their kids [or borrowed kids] enjoy local bands and other kids' company. Adults are asked to bring blankets and/or chairs along with snack and drinks for their kids.

While the concerts are usually held in people's backyards, the last show was held at the Metal Museum to accommodate the growing popularity of the show.

The organizers welcome every age with the only stipulation being that if you're an adult then you must bring a child.  Also, it's an invitation only type of deal but it's easy to get on "the list".  Look for the cute monkey in the left sidebar of their blog and fill in your information.

While the '08 season has ended, the first show of '09 will be held in April and I'll be sure to let you know about the date when it's announced.
